The rising temperature of this lonely island has led to the increase of the tourists who have a lot of curiosity to this aloof land. Air Greenland recently launched its first commercial flight from the U.S. to the self-governing Danish territory, which lures most of its relatively minuscule amount of visitors—55,000 last years—from Denmark. It is a land where both climate and the society are changing rapidly. It has been planned to establish new industries from oil drilling to mining in this hitherto pristine land.
Social change may be seen in its good and bad effects on the people of the region. The villagers text-message one another when someone lands a whale. Diabetes and obesity have surged as Greenlanders as they have changed their native protein-based diet to a carbohydrate diet of Danish imports. It is the worry of the people that with the advent of modernization, some of their old culture may vanish soon. There is also the threat of inability of hunting on ice because of the increase in the temperature. But, the biggest fear of the people which is the fear of ” dying alone” will be eliminated from the minds of the people as larger number of people would come each year to witness the landscape of this loneliest island.
