Dining with the Finnish Helsinki Menu

If I am not mistaken a few years ago it touched the diplomatic incident between Italy and Finland because of an unfortunate joke of our Prime Minister about the eating habits of Finns (there was talk of reindeer if I remember correctly).

Beyond the facts of color effects is not known that much of this kitchen, perhaps through ignorance or because, given the wide variety of our cuisine, we’re very encouraged to try the specialties of other countries. For the more curious going to travel to Helsinki, point out that the possibility exists to try the local cuisine, prepared with wholesome ingredients of that land, without the risk of incurring in fregature of the usual local tourists.

The initiative is called the Helsinki Menu and involves some twenty restaurants have the typical Finns, utilizing only the best seasonal ingredients (hence the menu changes with the seasons), sometimes rivisitandoli second taste of our day.

Arriva the low cost intercontinental

Monday, May 19th, 2008

Jet2.com and jet2holidays.com launch from November to stop from Leeds Bradford transatlantic flights to New York. The timetable presented by the company includes four departures between November and December that will exploit the tourist theme of Christmas shopping in the Big Apple (at a cost of £ 579, about 730 euros) and the offer of inclusive packages including 3 nights in a hotel at a cost of approximately 700 £ (880 euros, all the details on the site of the airline, here. The leaders of society include a large expansion in the number of flights already in summer 2009. And the interesting thing is that flights should be operational enabling coincidences useful even for non-English passengers.

Despite some bleak analysis journalistic the phenomenon of cheap flights, to put in the words of Neil Young, “is here to stay.” The contradictions and limitations that characterize the offer of leaders like Ryanair and Easyjet are many, but that of cheap flights remains a highly topical phenomenon that has changed perhaps in a definitive way the culture of travel in Europe.

Thanks also to the liberalization of US-EU called Open Skies, by 2009 the low cost will open new horizons intercontinental and consequently open up new horizons in our travel. Or maybe not. We are watching.

From Visitjoardan site:

An amazing place, with its fabulous scenery, unspoiled and timeless. This place, where time and wind have dug imposing and majestic skyscrapers, was elegantly described by TE Lawrence as “immense, echeggiante and divine.”

For the record the Wadi is the largest desert in Jordan.

The most beautiful city in the U.S. is Portland, Oregon!

Saturday, May 17th, 2008

The most beautiful city in the United States is Portland, at least in the view of PDX fans, who participated in our survey, which is to decide on the most beautiful city in the USA. In this regard, the standings at the time head sees in New York, followed by away from San Francisco, and even farther from Seattle, Miami, Los Angeles, Chicago, Washington last with only 1 vote. But the reporting of PDX (ps expect your advice on where to go and what to do) intrigued me so I went to look for a set minimum of information about Portland (the city of Rose), Oregon, USA.

Meanwhile inquadriamo Oregon, placing it on the Pacific coast, above California and under the Washington (the state not the city, where Seattle for ripetenti in geography). Then inquadriamo Portland, who are in the U.S., you have to indicate how PortalndOregon considering that those parts of Portland there are over 10. The city, if we consider also its metropolitan area, has over 2 million people, who live in the Willamette Valley so named from the river that cuts through two Portland.

The city is served by an international airport, connected with all major U.S. airports, but also with Frankfurt and Amsterdam, in the latter case with direct flights. Arriving at the airport, if you do not want to spend about 30 U.S. dollars taxi to arrive in the city for about 3 U.S. dollars can board the train, the MAX light rail, which in turn is connected with the public transport system, the pride of city. The centre, unlike other U.S. metropolis, is a human, with many visiting the walking (perhaps along the river on the Eastside Esplanade) or going by bicycle.

Many parks and girdini City of Roses, from Crystal Springs Rhododendron Garden, the National Sanctuary of Our Sorrowful Mother, all’immancabile garden Chinese Grotto or Mill Ends Park, the smallest park in the world. The Forest park, the largest urban park metropolitan U.S., is full of paths percorribili on foot or by bicycle, while the Springwater Corridor is a path of over 30 kilometers, also accessible to horses or disabled in a wheelchair.

After much walking, we also need to relax a bit, perhaps listening to good music, even in this case the offer is vast, the Doug Fir Lounge, Rose Quarter, Roseland Theater or the Crystal Ballroom. If you want to see the sea, the ocean is not so far. About 100-120 km following the sun.

The state of Campeche, a jewel hidden from Yucatan, Guatemala and Chiapas

Saturday, May 17th, 2008

In traditional tour of the Yucatan peninsula, the state of Campeche is, if goes well, flown over by plane or crossing by bus to reach the Chiapas or Guatemala. This region offers unexpected beauty, starting from the capital of the state.

Campeche is a sonnacchiosa as beautiful colonial town, protected by UNESCO, where you can admire, among other things, the archaeological museum housed in the Fort San Miguel. This small building exhibits treasures found in Maya sites in the area, one of the most important and unexplored in the country. The large collection of jade masks and video installations and explain the attractiveness tourists to visit Calakmul, the capital call in the Mayan language “snake head”.

Calakmul is a magical place, within a nature reserve, over 70 square meters of buildings swallowed up by jungle and the visit is often accompanied by flocks of urlatrici monkeys and other animal species, we recommend that you go at dawn for fans of Bird watching.

And the show that he enjoys from over 45 meters of the Great Pyramid is impressive, forest as the eye can see interrupted only from the tip of other pyramids that interrupt the majesty of this “green sea”. The excavations are still underway and the findings impressive: a tunnel 20 meters long decorated with a bas color in a pyramid that dates from 450 cristo forward for the time being the oldest in the area.
