Representatives of China and Taiwan, after decades of hostility (China does not recognize Taiwan as an independent state but as its own region “rebel”), have signed un’accordo which has the ambition to expand the tourist relations between the two countries, increasing permits for charter flights that make the shuttle over China in March.
Tourism, not only as business, but as key to break down the mutual distrust, this is perhaps the biggest gamble of the Agreement. By allowing a forty operators to organize charters flights between China and Taiwan, wants to increase the flow of tourists between the two countries increase mutual understanding so as to combat prejudice and promote cultural exchanges.
Currently, flights between the two countries are limited to certain times of the year, coinciding with major Chinese holidays, and allowed only to Taiwanesi who have relatives in China.
