Attractions in Kiev: the monastery of St. Michael

The photograph takes the beautiful monastery of St. Michele in Kiev in Ukraine, the monastery, still active, is located on the west bank of the Dnieper in the upper part of the city centre, above the old commercial and administrative center of Kiev.
The monastery, originally built in middle-ages, was destroyed by the Soviets in 1934. One month we wanted to destroy this beautiful building, but before this scempio was completed, specialists dell’Accademia of Fine Arts in Leningrad worked against the clock to save as much as possible of the splendid mosaics that adorned the monastery.
Only with the independence of Ukraine in 1991, the scempio was declared for what it was, and began to plan the reconstruction of the building, which was returned to the Ukrainians, and worldwide in 1999, even if we wanted another year to rebuild the interior.
