Airport Chaos Amid Fight Against Terrorism

Passengers must prepare themselves to suffer delays in flights because of the fight against terrorism. The Britishers are ready to fight the terror, and are unwilling to be intimidated by the terrorists.
The crowded places and aviation especially becomes the hot target for the terrorist groups to cause chaos and devastation on a large scale. In order to fight back the terrorists, the Britishers are taking utmost safety measures. The public would have to bear all the delays patiently during the peak season as it is only for their safety.
Ruth Kelly, the Transport Secretary, called a “security summit” of major airlines, airports and government officials yesterday to discuss the concerns, as Mr. Brown said the public had to accept delays. There would be months of disruption following last weekend’s failed car bombings, but stressed on the fact that the measures were necessary for public safety.
Last week almost 3,000 air flights were delayed in Britain and this week, the number is expected to rise to a great extent. Last summer the police foiled an alleged plot to bomb several transatlantic airliners, and afterwards the people had to suffer the delays and chaos. The above picture displays the chaos outside Terminal 4 of Heathrow Airport, which was evacuated on Tuesday after a suspect package was found.
The police have prepared itself for unprecedented emergency and tight security measures have been adopted for sport and live music events likely to attract up to one and a half million spectators.
Central London will be “locked down” as it hosts the opening stage of the Tour de France, the first time the cycling event has come to Britain. Scotland Yard has planned for two years and said it was prepared for a “very high threat level”.
More than 5,000 officers will be on patrol and thousands more are on duty at the British Grand Prix at Silverstone, Wimbledon, Henley regatta and the Live Earth concert at Wembley.
Therefore, it is a request to you all, to cooperate with the government and the police and to bear all the inconvenience caused as your safety is their prime motto.

Air travel not bad for environment

Monday, June 18th, 2007

A statement by the British Airline Pilots organization has challenged declaration that the air journey is a major reason of rising carbon dioxide release.

The report, released on Monday, says that air travel is used as scapegoats for universal temperate, saying “half truths and untruths” have made travelers are feeling guilty about captivating a flight.

Through this report the organization says that “air travel accounts for only 2-3% of global carbon dioxide emissions. But some environmentalists say that share will increase significantly because of a greater number of flights”.

The association of pilots disagrees, saying that the giving of air travel to universal carbon dioxide temperature will only rise to 6% by 2050. Its chairman, Mervyn Granshaw, says “the latest jets were more carbon efficient than the newest high-speed trains on longer journeys”.

Mt Granshaw says” It would be inappropriate and premature to restrict air transport at this time. The damage that would be done not only to our industry, but to tourism and to the economies of developing nations, would be enormous.”

The industry will take part in its part of addressing carbon dioxide emissions and air travel has become an easy goal.
