On holiday in the homes of writers

An idea of original holiday for all lovers of books? Staying in the homes of our favorite writers. Yes, maybe there happen to take tea with Stephen King or playing quidditch with JK Rowling, but would you like to put the pleasure unique and unrepeatable to rent the house of John Keats or Robert Louis Stevenson?

This bell’articolo of The Observer presents a list of places open to the public where you can relive the atmosphere from which it drew inspiration our favorite novels. Why not take advantage: for the homeless in Kent where Charles Dickens lived during the long summer holidays, between 1937 and 1959, (and where seems to have written Nicholas Nickleby) spend from 83 to 207 pounds. Without considering that, from 19 to 22 June, you can participate in Broadstairs Dickens Festival 2008.

And what they say the room number 511 of the Ambos Mundos, in Havana, where Ernest Hemingway wrote “For Whom the Bell Tolls,” which he himself described as “a good place to write.” The list is long, from Berlin where Franz Kafka stayed that to Key West described by Tennessee Williams, up to the estate in Vermont where Rudyard Kipling spent his honeymoon (and learned to ski on skis from donatigli Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, the inventor of Sherlock Holmes).

It starts tomorrow, the festival of Spoleto 2008, American edition

Saturday, May 24th, 2008

From May 23 (tomorrow) to 8 June billboard will be the festival of Spoleto 2008. How to tell? I’m wrong? The 2008 edition will take place from June 27 to July 13? Ninth, I am absolutely certain that the festival will begin tomorrow, only that it will not be in Spoleto, from our shares in Umbria, but in Charleston, South Carolina, USA, where for 31 years held the edition of a twin of cultural events more Famous you doing in Italy.

And even the U.S. edition must be of quality, read some comments about us was, as Erin that says:

When I visited Charleston, I did not think that we are the flavour of Italy, but thanks to Spoleto Festival which was in program in the city, that is what we have subsequently found. Even if you can not participate in a specific event while visiting the city, the mere fact of being there during the festival, in itself is an experience!

The South Carolina is a state of the East, bordering with Georgia (a little more about Florida for instance) and Charleston is one of the most important cities of the state. Charleston, overlooking that is protected form the underlying faces a deep estuary and several islets, was spared by the civil war U.S. and for this still a colonial flavor, well in this architecture of villas and dell’immancabile French quarter.

Besides the festival, the lords of IgoUgo, we recommend to visit Fort Summer, City Market, the Aquarium citizen and Boone Hall plantation.

The Merry Monarch hula festival in 2008

Tuesday, May 6th, 2008

Having at home two rospette that continually Mill cartoons, I know the trilogy of Lilo and Stich in memory. If you, like me, you tried to dance the Hula watching the steps of Lilo, perhaps this will make you comfortable where videos of “professionals” perform during the Merry Monarch Festival 2008.

The Hula is a Hawaiian and Polynesian dance, accompanied by music and apples, indigenous folk tales handed down in the form of singing. The Merry Monarch Festival, a festival is held annually in April on the island of Hilo to Haway. I conclude by quoting the intro page of the official festival:

The hula is the language of the heart, for this beat to the rhythm of the heart of the people of Hawaii.
