Bronkhorst: the smallest town of Holland

On the southern shore of the river IJssel in the region Gelderland (about 70 km from Düsseldorf and 130 from Amsterdam), rises Bronkhorst which with its approximately 150 inhabitants is the smallest city of Holland. Born at the foot of the castle of the Lords of Bronkhorst, who in the Middle Ages were a powerful and influential family of landowners, today the town preserves the chapel and a number of homes with the facade steps and inlaid wood, while the castle, the walls of walls and channels citizens are almost completely disappeared.

A Bronkhorst deserves a visit Dickens museum that collects books and articles related to the curious life and works of English writer Charles Dickens in an original farm town. The characters born from the pen of the famous author resume life in a temporary exhibition of puppets size and, turning to Bronkhorst, do not be surprised if you then the impression of being able to meet Scrooge (the stingy protagonist of “A Christmas Carol”) and Mr.. Pickwick (the protagonist of his first novel “The Pickwick circle”)…

Around Bronkhorst can go hiking on foot or by bicycle to admire the typical Dutch landscape, alternating with several places of historical interest. You can stay in the hotel in the city, ‘Hotel Restaurant Herberg de Gouden Leeuw, to eat while you can choose between two restaurants!

A tip: you can get to Bronkhorst also by ferry from Brummen along the river IJssel with its evocative golene. This is an opportunity not be missed…

China: Artists Promoting Tourism

Monday, August 20th, 2007

These days, China is witnessing a major shift in the profession of artists. They are increasingly changing their profession from art to tourism. It broadly means that now their work means an amalgam of art and food. They are actually emerging as restaurateurs.

Some of such restaurants or cafes are Qu Nar, Tian Xia Yan, and South Silk Road. All these restaurants in Beijing are the major highlights of the town these days.

china tourism

South Silk Road is in Soho New Town. It is a fabulous restaurant made for the leisure of high-class art- lovers. Beautiful waitresses in bright uniforms serve delicious food. The black furniture also adds beauty to the artistic environment.

Qu Nar is planned and owned by an artist called Mr. Ai, whose restaurant is a perfect place for his fellowmen to relax and dine. The owner is of view that the restaurant is not making much profit because of lack of promotion. But, in my opinion, it is one of the best restaurants, with an exclusive ambience.

I think that it is a nice way of promoting tourism, and encouraging art-lovers to have a different taste.
